Urology: Kidney Stones (Audio-Digest Foundation Urology Continuing Medical Education (CME)

Purpose: Audio-Digest Foundation CME/CE activities are designed to provide its learners – physicians and other healthcare professionals with continuing education that will help identify clinical problems in their practice settings, provide content to help to solve those problems, and increase their application of knowledge to practice.


Audio-Digest Urology is specifically designed to provide the participant with state-of-the-art information, including, but not limited to, the diagnosis and management of:
  • Benign prostatic hyperplasia
  • Bladder cancer
  • Prostate cancer
  • Renal cancer
  • Impotence and infertility
  • Female stress urinary incontinence
  • Calculus disease
  • Interstitial cystitis
  • Pediatric urologic problems
  • Penile malformations
  • Reflux disease
  • Sexually transmitted diseases
The goal of this program is to improve the management of nephrolithiasis. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1: Identify the systemic diseases and conditions that constitute risk factors for the development of kidney stones.
2: Cite data demonstrating the contribution of genetics to the propensity for kidney stones.
3: Describe a possible physiologic basis for a vascular origin of kidney stones.
4: Recognize factors predictive of success of shock wave lithotripsy (SWL).
5: Apply recent findings about preferred lithotripter equipment, shock wave rates, sedation, and use of stents to maximize success of SWL.
